That’s the pulsating message one gets, when you watch the agile 102-year old character of Amitabh Bachchan dancing with uninhibited abandon, to the ‘Badumbaaa’ lyrics with foot-tapping Calypso-Rumba-Samba Caribbean rhythms and Indian folksy beats along with his on-screen 75-year-old ‘sulking’ son Rishi Kapoor.
In fact, this rap song from the maverick movie ‘102 Not Out’, directed by Umesh Shukla , is already emerging among the top trending chartbuster songs in the digital playlists. The expression ‘Badumbaaa’ coined by ‘Big B’ himself, “represents a reaction of euphoric delight somewhat like ‘woww’ or ‘yaaahoo’” and the track is a rap-fusion song ‘composed’ and sung by mega-star Amitabh Bachchan’s 102-years old ‘cool’ screen-character and also by ‘son’ Rishi Kapoor whose morose character belongs to the ‘old school’.
Interestingly, the unusual theme of this movie, which has the father wanting to send his much-younger son to an ‘old-age’ home, was what instantly intrigued both Bachchan and Rishi to sign up for this venture, which celebrates ‘ageing’.
Self-effacing as usual, the ‘Pink’ mega-star Amitabh says, “If you find my performance impressive, due credit also goes to all my co-artistes and to the writer who has scripted my movie.”
Complimenting his senior co-star the outspoken ‘Chints’ Kapoor jestfully quipped,” actually Bachchan-saab should not get paid for his professional acting, because he is always so natural and spontaneous while giving his shots.”
