Adoor Gopalakrishnan retrospective at Osianama

The events that stretch from Sept. 18 upto October 4 includes a major exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi photographed by Henri Cartier-Bresson from the Osian’s Archive Collection and the rare personal artifacts of Gandhi from the collection of Kamal Morarka

A retrospective on films by Adoor Gopalakrishnan along with a master class by the veteran filmmaker are among the inaugural events offered by Osianama, a cultural centre focusing on Indian and world cinema besides arts and vintage automobiles, launched earlier this year.

The retrospective is scheduled to be held at iconic art-deco Liberty Cinema on Friday, Sept. 18 with a masterclass where the veteran filmmaker will introduce his films the following day.

Opening day events of 'Jashn-Osianama' include screening of "Rashomon", directed by Akira Kurosawa,"Images/Reflections" a documentary on Gopalakrishnan, directed by Girish Kasarvalli and "Swyamvaram" by Gopalakrishanan.

A panel discussion on India's cultural renaissance on the same day includes Gopalakrishnan, Kasarvalli, Kanak Rele, Sen Kapadia and Gieve Patel moderated by Neville Tuli, Chairman, Osianama.

The events that stretch to October 4 includes a major exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi, 'The Fuller-Full Life of a Mahatma', featuring the showing of his last days photographed by French master photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson from the Osian's Archive Collection and the rare personal artifacts of Gandhi from the collection of Kamal Morarka.

Exhibition of rare and vintage memorabilia from the Osian's Library, archive and collection include select highlights of the South Indian contribution to the history of cinema. The event is scheduled between September 19-24.

Veteran photographer Raghu Rai is also set to conduct a photography master class this month.

Another exhibition 'Glimpses of Genius: Akira Kurosawa and Satyajit Ray' has been scheduled for the same time.

"Osianama comes to you, first from Mumbai, across three exclusive venues - Osianama at Liberty (Opens daily from September 18 with a focus on Indian, Asian, Arab & World Cinema and the Indian Popular Cultures); Osianama at Tao (Opened on September 8 with a focus on the Indian & Asian Modern and Contemporary Fine Arts & Antiquities) and Osianama at HQ where the Osian's Archive, Library and Research Centre opens in December 2015," Neville Tuli, Chairman Osianama said in a statement.

"The fourth venue will be Osianama at Vanraja in Delhi which will focus on Animal Welfare, Veterinary Sciences and Nature Studies," Tuli said.
