National Award-winning actor Irrfan Khan was in his element as he conversed with invitees in his characteristic witty candour. The suave Khan was invited to unveil the latest edition of a leading fanzine
‘Stardust’ where he appears on the cover, at an event hosted by media baron Nari Hira. Enthused the ‘Madaari’ actor, “Seeing my picture on the cover, I feel I have finally reached, because I could never imagine myself being featured in this prominent way. It feels great and you also feel viable,” shrugged the modest Irrfan who in ‘Piku’ made a lasting impact, despite being pitted against the super-star actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Having worked with various Hollywood actors including Tom Hanks (in ‘Inferno’)were there some processes that our own desi Bollywood could emulate or adapt? “There is, but I don’t think we are ready to learn from them,” chuckles the candid Khan. Has his stint with various Hollywood movies ‘charisma’ made any difference to his acting career in the Hindi film-industry. The frank Irrfan pauses and reacts. “Not really, nobody offered me a role, just because I did Hollywood cinema. But yes, I got more respect from local audiences and my fans felt proud that I carvedmy space in foreign movies,” insists the rugged actor whose hell-bent mission has been to constantly ‘break’ his screen image. “Actually I hate to be stereo-typed and wish to soon act in a romantic comedy. Because versatile variety is also the spice of acting life,” he signs off.
