She was once the face of parallel cinema; today Shabana Azmi — and let’s applaud her for this and let’s not be squeamish or politically correct about it — is the face of the honest, inward-looking, bravely vocal Muslim who will fight for the community and, if required, fight it too. Heaven knows we need more of her kind these days. Ms Admirable Azmi, may your power increase, may your tribe be heard.
