If truth be told, Sanjay Dutt has muddled through much of his life. School, much of his early film career, drugs, marriages, guns, underworld connections, jail, the legal system, and most recently, politics. That’s quite a list. So why does Mumbai still indulge Sanju Baba? Perhaps because they recognise that he is an accidental offender, that he is a terrible symbol of how real crooks can manipulate, vilify or lionise the smaller fry.
