Once the closest knit business family in this country - the media could never get a photograph of any of the Ambanis' individually. The only photographs that were available were with the father Dhirubhai seated and flanked on both sides by his sons.

But the Ambainis' have now vertically split into two groups. The original Reliance Industries and a host of other companies are managed by the Late Dhirubhai's elder son Mukesh, while younger son Anil has reinvented his companies, which are known as the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.

Ironic as it may seem, their father preached just one word. Family...family ...family! He always referred to his shareholders as 'My family'. Ditto for his suppliers, buyers and business associates.... And he did create the largest family - over 3 crore shareholders - in his company.
