The Mumbai unit of the Youth Congress (IYC) today took a strong objection to withholding of the nomination form of a candidate short listed by the parliamentary board committee of Congress.
“The parliamentary board committee has short listed the name of Tejinder Singh Tiwana, who has been given the opportunity to contest from ward no 31. However, his AB form has been withheld,” said Sadaf Aboli, Mumbai IYC chief, at a press conference.
Taking objection to George Abraham, the candidate suggested by north Mumbai MP Sanjay Nirupam for the same ward, Aboli said, “He had contested as an independent and defeated the Congress candidate in the 2007 BMC elections.”
“Tejinder Singh Tiwana was the sole candidate chosen by the parliamentary board committee. Mumbai Congress chief released the list stating that Tiwana will be contesting from ward no 31. However, another name cropped up who has not been shortlisted,” he said.
“If deliberately a rebel candidate's name is suggested, then there is a conspiracy behind it,” he remarked.
The IYC leader also said that only Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh and MP Sanjay Nirupam could tell why the AB form was not given to Tiwana.
