Forbes Marshall, a Pune based company, has always been proud of its Zoroastrian base and always had values to guide it in every consideration for growth. Our stalwarts including its founders Jeejeebhoy Marshall, his brother Maneckji, and his nephew Darius Forbes, who would seek out Parsees to fulfill needs as they arose. Among the first recruits in the company were, Homi Governor- honest to the core, Fali Lord who preferred Forbes Marshall over his family concern in Matheran and Phiroz Khambatta – a lawyer by qualification who joined as a trainee and rose to become the sales head. All three who rose to become the CEO and directors respectively, in those days helped to build a business with integrity and never let a customer down. The business was joined by Eddie Sethna who with devotion and hard work helped recruit other Parsi youngsters and trained them with similar values. Aspi Gowadia fresh from scholastic studies, was always ready to learn in the training programmes that Darius Forbes insisted on for all who joined. Dadi Mistry spent years with the business till he was posted to Delhi and felt he would serve our community with contacts he had.
Founder and Chairman Darius Forbes has always believed in giving back to society. Corporate Social Responsibility is not something he does to look good, or by writing NGOs a cheque. Instead, he looks around and sees needs in society which he can provide, and he provides them. Philanthropy has always been a cornerstone of Darius Forbes’ life. He has contributed his time, expertise and resources for institution building.
He is either the origin of, or present at the origin of, all the company’s values, most policies, and much of the business. His ability to hang onto an idea, an approach, a business in spite of opposition comes again from his deep belief in what is right.
Darius Forbes and his colleagues transformed the family business from a trading firm to a manufacturing company. Over the years, the business grew and diversified. Today, Forbes Marshall specialises in energy, process efficiency and environmental products and services and has campuses at Kasarwadi, MIDC, Hyderabad and the latest one coming up at Chakan near Pune. There are 23 offices in India and 19 overseas.
Forbes Marshall was never an only Parsees company, young students passing out from academic institutions were encouraged to learn and qualify with the expertise that the firm provided. The aim was always to provide solutions for customer problems and this was possible only if each had learnt the technology and gained the experience in the time they worked in the company. Many who felt they wanted to establish their own businesses were encouraged to do so and were helped in becoming sub-contractors to the business.
Thus Forbes Marshall established itself and has been winning awards on its way. Many Parsee men and women have contributed to this remarkable journey and continue to do so. It is impossible to name all of them and the company gratefully acknowledges their contribution.
