Considering the possibility of malfunctioning or tampering of EVMs, which happened during the recent Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Kolhapur and Sangli, the commissioner of Thane has warned that there will be re-elections if any such incident occurs in Thane.
Many voters from Kolhapur and Sangli saw a diversion of their votes to the NCP regardless of which button they pressed on the voting machines. Some of the politicians in Thane also fear the possibility of tampering with the EVMs during coming elections of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
Bhayyasaheb Indise, former chairman of Standing Committee of TMC, approached Commissioner R.A. Rajeev with a letter requesting him to take precautionary measures against such situations as some political parties have tampered the EVMs.
Reacting to this, Rajeev said that the entire process of election will be cancelled if any such incident is detected and there will be re-elections conducted in the particular ward.
