The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received only 3,344 nominations for the BMC election 2012, a number considerably lower than that of 2007 civic elections.
According to the BMC officials, during the 2007, BMC elections a total 3,546 nominations were received for 227 municipal wards. However, this time only 3,344 nominations have been received; this means the nominations have gone down by a massive 202 count.
In the 2007 polls, 417 nominations were disqualified and 715 candidates withdrew their nominations, leaving only 2,376 candidates to contest the elections.
However, this time, the total number of candidates for actual elections fray will be very less, as several candidates have submitted two to four forms in the view to
secure their candidature, in case one application is disqualified on any reason.
Gandhi Kanak Rajesh member of Loksatta party has submitted four applications for ward no 214.
Same way Sakapal Shankar Ramchandra, an independent candidate, Jogani Rajesh of Loksatta pary and Sakshi Sudhir Jalgaonkar has submitted three applications each for the same constituency. Ultimately they have to contest on only one application and withdraw remaining applications, so the number.
