Activity School is a part of CMCA (Children's Movement for 'Civic Awareness) for the past four years. The CMCA mission is to kindle and nurture active citizenship and inculcate democratic values in children through fun activities, debates , discussions and assignments. It is all about junior citizens and how they can make a difference.
The School Profile Project, which helps students know the school better, understand and be aware of problems in their school (if any), as well as bring to the fore positive aspects of the school was successfully completed by the club. As part of the findings, the members presented a letter to Mrs. Bagli appreciating the amenities provided to students and also pointed out the need for cleanliness around toilets and proper functioning of drinking water taps. The Principal assured the students that she would look into these matters.
On World Democracy Day, September 15th, a debate was held on the topic "Is education sinking India?" The club members, Mr. Swapnil and Mr. Aaron, were declared the best speakers.
The Ripples of Change activity saw the students enthusiastically practising what they learn in CMCA classroom sessions, reflecting on their personal experiences and sharing them with their peer groups. This Activity initiated change in attitudes and behaviour towards people who are our daily service providers (municipal sweeper, servants, security personnel...). The Energy Tasks in this activity sensitised the children to conserve energy by switching off main switches, not charging mobiles overnight, and trying to bring down electricity bills.
Various other topics like Rights and Responsibilities, Urban Local governance, Celebrating our Diversity, and Right to Equality, were also taught. Special emphasis was given to equal constitutional rights for women, and helpline numbers for eve teasing. CMCA has tied up with GODREJ in their Save A Watt Campaign.
