
Of the 2,903 polling booths for the elections of Thane Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti, more than 16 per cent booths (420) have been identified as sensitive while five have been found hyper sensitive. The total number of voters in Thane ZP area is 17,87,997 voters, which includes 9,28,037 males and 8,59,960 females.
As a part of precautionary measures, the State Excise Department has material worth Rs. 75,31,401, that includes illegally imported liquor from the neighbouring states, material of making country liquor, vehicles, etc. So far 28 vehicles have been seized while cases were filed against 624 accused. A total 289 accused have been arrested. Special checking points have been started at the entrance of the district such as Zai, Sanjan, Talasari- Achchhad, Kasara, Malshej etc.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sanjay Mukharji, the Commissioner of State Excise Department and the Election co-ordinator for Thane district directed the officials to sort out the election related complaints within 24 hours.
The total nominations filed were 1,904 out of which 441 could be the valid candidates for the elections of Thane ZP and Panchayat Samiti that are going to take place on February 6. Five of the invalid candidates had appealed at the district court against it but their appeals were refused. 163 candidates took their nominations back while 268 are in the fray.
