The hand-drawn designs in films such as Iron Man or The Island always seem to capture our imagination. Now, you can treat yourself to some in real life at the Design and Degree Show 2015, which features 190 design projects from over 50 students. At this year’s event, you’ll find an exhibit called the Mumbai Rail Map, which aims to de-clutter your experience with the confusing local train system. The map is easy to navigate and has already been installed at several major stations. There is also an application underway.
Another project, Atomatic, has an interactive physical model of the structure of the atom, which helps the visually challenged understand the abstract concept. Other interesting projects that you can check out include a portable vein detection system for medical uses and an inflatable, stackable raft design to help people in flood-hit areas. The faculty co-ordinator for the DDS tells us, “The Design and Degree Show is an annual event by post-graduate students of design at the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay. The event will feature an exhibition of design projects created by students, a seminar on design education and a set of talks by professional designers. While the exhibition will be interesting to a diverse audience, the seminar and talks special interest for aspiring as well as practicing designers and design educators.”
