Badri Narayan’s Solo Show at The Viewing Room
The Viewing Room is presenting renowned artist, children’s books author and story teller Badri Narayan’s first solo exhibition in six years. There will be a range of canvas works on display. The artist works on mediums that include printmaking in wood cuts, ceramic tiles, engravings, painting and mosaic works. The celebrated artist, who hails from Secunderbad in Andhra Pradesh, tells us, “As an artist I have tried various mediums besides watercolours such as oil, ceramic and mosaic, but I was always particularly fond of watercolours. I did a couple of oil paintings in my life such as The Family (1971) which is a rare work of mine. I did not do too many canvases though as my daughter had an allergic reaction to the oil paint. But, I did a lot of work on the other mediums and I was very happy exploring them. I'm fond of the old world school of art and I’m not too keen on exploring some mediums used today such as digital art. This is a special exhibition for me as I have spent most of my life in Mumbai although I am based in Bengaluru. I have lots of friends, admirers and well wishers who are looking forward to seeing my work after a gap of six years.”

Vibha Galhotra’s Neo Monster at High Street Phoenix
High Street Phoenix always has some great installations and this weekend, they’re presenting artist Vibha Galhotra’s installation, the Neo Monster at the Courtyard. The work is a project that raises questions about the changing aesthetics of environment, politics and social structures that affect our daily lives. In association with ArtOxygen, the structure is large, with sheer gold rubber casing. Anna Bredemeyer, vice-president of marketing says, “It’s not everyday that art interprets the environmental issue at hand in a larger than life way, but Vibha Galhotra’s giant inflatable art installation is one of few exceptions that draws attention to the seriousness of the subject artistically. This April, we are delighted to collaborate with ArtOxygen as well as the super talented artist herself, to lend the platform High Street Phoenix for the display of the Neo Monster, which personifies the global environmental crisis amplifying the gravity of this grave issue at large.”
