Bengali food festival

Solitaire Restaurant gears up to take you on a gastronomical journey of Bengali cuisine at Hotel Kohinoor Continental.  The theme of the Bengali Food festival is Gram Bangla (rural West Bengal) with the restaurant promising to treat you to authentic delicacies presented by Bengal-origin Master Chefs.  The menu will have about 15 food items on the list with a surprise to be announced each day.

 For starters you can have Veg chop, Dimer devil, Luchi, Chholar dal, Bhaat, Bhaja beguni,  (batter fried aubergines ) and Kheema ghugni (hand chopped mutton mince with green peas). The main course offers you Shukto, Aloo phoolkopi, Chigri malai curry (prawns in coconut milk), Kosha mangsho (Bengali style Mutton), macher malai curry, pabda macher jhal, Ilish mach bhape, Rui macher kalia, Rohu fish masala, posto murgi, dhokar dalna, aloo posto, mishti pulao, tomato chutney. No Bengali meal can be complete without the sweet offerings. You can polish off Chitrakoot, Sandesh, Patishapta, Coconut stuffed pancakes, Cheese jalebis and mishti doi accompanied to old Bengali music classics.

All this with décor based in the Gram Bangla region and staff attired in dhoti-kurta and Bengali saree. This fest will certainly take you to the Gram Bengal.

Smoke House Deli

Smoke House Deli’s  menu is a mix of light yet wholesome meals. The special cold soup, Kefir milk with cucumber and kale is the perfect light and refreshing starter to your meal. The healthy salad option, Avocado with ice apples and bean sprouts, is a must try. Along with these are the  gluten-free Jowar taco with spiced mango pico de gallo, with options like the leafy option, Aubergine caponata and feta to the meaty options like Peri peri spiced smoked chicken, and Coriander pesto rubbed tenderloin strips.

In case you are up to celebrate Gin day they offer Gin Up, gin, coconut water, grapefruit juice, rosemary and Campari- gin-lombucha.   You may want to try the sweet finale of the season’s last Mango with Ricotta Cheese Cake.

Sushi & dimsum set lunch

Chef Farrokh Khambata introduces a sushi and dimsum set menu lunch at Umame & Joss, known for their authentic Asian cuisine.  The menu will include everything fresh, from a variety of dim sums with unusual fillings and sushi. "Introduced for the first time by popular demand we have crafted a selection that’s healthy and light on the pocket as well," says Chef Farrokh.

The set menu consists of a soup, a cold entree, sushi, dimsum and dessert. Select from the Laksa of Asian vegetables and water chestnut or Soto Ayam of chicken soup or opt for a Mandarin orange and mint Caipiroska. The cold entree features the Thai papaya salad with peanuts and runner beans. A house selection of six pieces of sushi—spicy samurai rolls, Philadelphia roll and the mafia rolls for the vegetarians and rainbow rolls, Wasabi hit prawn rolls and Fuji rolls for the non- vegetarians. Also relish an assortment of four of your favourite dimsums—Edamame and truffle Oil, Har gao of corn, Water chestnuts and asparagus or Dumplings of chive and prawn and Jiaozi of wok-seared chicken.

End your meal with Chef Farrokh’s filo cups and assorted berries and a scoop of the inhouse dulce de leche ice cream.

Pizza cravings

The Leela Mumbai offers the  Italian classic a healthy makeover with its Wellness Pizza menu. The menu offers an eclectic mix of alternative pizza bases with toppings recommended by the chef like Quinoa and maize base, (king prawns, salmon and capers), Sweet Potato base (feta cheese, cherry tomatoes and peppers) and Almond and Zucchini base (pepperoni and mozzarella). These bases are all gluten-free and can be customised as per your liking with the toppings of your choice. You can also opt for creations like Piccante-di-Anatra (Traditional duck pizza served with orange segments and a plum sauce), Carciofi All’Uovo (Artichoke pizza with bull’s eye egg, arugula and red peppers) and Jumbo Calzone—a take on the classic breakfast staple. The Leela suggests you try Divola (super-hot barbecue chicken pizza served with red onions and pickled jalapenos) or opt for the Whole Wheat Ortolana (Spinach, mushroom and potatoes served on a whole wheat pizza base). You may want to indulge in the last of the season; the Mango Pizza (Mascarpone and mango pizza drizzled with farmed honey).

PEDAL FOR CHILD HEART AILMENTS

In an effort to treat underprivileged children from tribal and rural areas, Korum Mall in association with Cyclathon India initiates ‘Pedal For Child Heart’.  The event is in support of Project Aasha, an initiative by Fortis Hospital and the state of Maharashtra. Children suffering from Congenital Heart problems are treated free of cost both surgically and medically.

While the race is open to all ages, the category varies according to the age group. Adventure enthusiasts are invited to discover Thane with like-minded cyclists while being part of a noble cause.
