Dim sum week at Spices

Spices, the oriental restaurant at JW Marriott, has introduced a special, week-long dim sum menu, which has been designed by chef Tenzin Khechok. You can look forward to an assortment of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dim sums. Chef Tenzin tells us,“I want the guests at Spices to sample traditional dim sum preparations. They will be prepared and served in an authentic way and will treat you to a perfect balance of flavour and taste.”

Lemon Leaf’s fifth anniversary
Celebrate Lemon Leaf’s fifth anniversary with a special menu that has been curated by five chefs who were once associated with the restaurant. The dishes include the Vietnamese Bahn-Mi, Korean Bibimbap, Japanese Spicy Tuna Tartare Maki, Thai favourite Jasmine Fried Rice with minced chicken & prawn wafers and an age-old Lemon Leaf favourite — Pan Roast Chicken. Chef Mitesh Rangras, director of SID Hospitality Pvt Ltd, tells us, “Walking down a nostalgic road, we wanted to make sure that our customers enjoyed the best of Lemon Leaf (erstwhile Lemon Grass), right from the time it achieved its iconic status in Bandra. This is an emotional journey and we hope you can partake in it with us! On offer are the best Lemon Grass dishes as well as culinary delights that have travelled across the world.”

New menu at Café Nemo
Café Nemo has introduced a new menu, which includes an eclectic mix of flavours from across the world. The menu features dishes such as Charred Corn Veloute, Gnocchi Mac N Cheese, Dak Galbi Chicken Burger, Tenderloin Burger and the Jungle Crab Curry. Restaurateur Sahil Timbadia, the co-owner of Café Nemo, tells us, “We are experimenting with new flavours in our kitchen, and it is natural for us to introduce the ones that we deem successful to our menu. We will always be tinkering with the menu by tweaking the existing dishes and introducing new ones.”

La Folie Pop- up at Palladium
If you love desserts, head to Palladium Hotel’s Barista Bar, where they’re hosting a special pop-up store by La Folie. You can indulge in a wide range of popular desserts as well as a few unique creations. Sanjana Patel, the chef at La Folie, tells us, “La Folie’s pop-up at the Palladium Hotel is for those who have been eagerly waiting for it to open here. For the pop-up, we have introduced Mi Fleur, which is our anniversary dessert. It’s made with luscious red fruits of the forest, white chocolate vanilla, orange blossom water and lime cake. We will also be serving our signature hot chocolate and will be selling special 350g gourmet cakes. La Folie’s gifting range will also be on offer at the pop-up.”

Fondue festival
Out of the Blue in Khar is hosting a Global Fondue Festival, which features flavours from around the world. You can pick from Brazilian, Greek, French, Sri Lankan, Dutch, Italian and traditional Swiss fondue, along with a desi fondue. Who knew there were so many types! “After travelling to a few countries in Europe, I have always had the urge to explore the horizons of fondue, which happens to be one of the most innovative, trademark items on our menu. This menu is my tribute to the multiple styles of fondue-making that are seen across Europe, and the plethora of accompaniments that are used to complement the taste of each fondue. For each fondue, we have strived to procure traditional cheese from the place of origin and blend it with herbs and spices from the country that it originates from,” says head chef, Juliano Rodrigues, from Out of the Blue.

Pyjamas & Pancake Drunch at The Little Door
The Little Door is organising a Pyjamas & Pancake Drunch, where you can enjoy unlimited alcohol along with karaoke and board games, to celebrate their third anniversary. Tanu Narang, the owner of The Little Door, tells us, “This week’s drunch is special since The Little Door is turning three. There’s an entire new menu, which we have designed specially for the birthday drunch. We plan to get naughtier and crazier with every passing year and so, people can expect a lot of crazy surprises.” The drunch is priced at `1,393, plus taxes.

The Butterfly People by Ajay De

If you like spending your weekends admiring art, you should check out Ajay De’s The Butterfly People. The exhibition isn’t just a collection of paintings, it also includes 3D installations — one that has over 2,000 butterflies! Ajay is known for his black and white charcoal work, but this exhibition is an eclectic mix of black and white sketches, with colourful butterfly-inspired themes. Ajay says, “I have always experienced colour, but have never expressed it. The expressions of the butterflies resonated with my experiences and I decided to experiment with colour. Soon, I began revelling in it, and before I knew it, these paintings and installations began taking shape.”

Portfolio review with Vikram Bawa

Vikram Bawa will be conducting a portfolio review (which is a huge trend abroad, but isn’t as popular in India), where he will discuss his work and share his experience of the 20 years he has spent in the field of photography. He will also guide aspiring photographers, helping them learn how to create a portfolio and improve on their work so that they can be more competitive. Vikram says, “This year is all about new and exciting projects. Projects of self-discovery, projects using my photography, projects on photography as an art form and planned projects are what I have in mind.”

Events at Bombay Natural History Society
Over the next few months, the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) will be organising a string of events for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. One of their upcoming events is a trip to the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary in Raigad, where you will get to experience the rich biodiversity of the area. You can also head to Elephanta Island with BNHS to take a look at the bat and bird trail over there. Atul Sathe, manager of communications at BNHS, tells us, “Situated off the south-east shore of the city, Elephanta Island is a good birding location. Even the Phansad Sanctuary harbours several endemic animals such as the Malabar Parakeet, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Grey-fronted Green-pigeon, Ceylon Frogmouth, and White-cheeked Barbet.” Check their Facebook page to find out about all their events.

EMERGE Art and Music Festival
EMERGE is launching their music and art festival, which will feature installations, live art events, sculptures, music performances and much more. Jaideep Singh, vice president and business head at INS, tells us, “We envision a new experience for the creative soul of art and music lovers. We have also undertaken an initiative to reduce noise and air pollution — anyone who cycles to the festival will get 20% off on their ticket.” Performers include the Grammy-nominated band, Alt-J, BRIT award winners Rudimental (DJ set), and virtuoso hang-drum player Daniel Waples ft. The Petebox.

The Dressing Room is hosting over 50 designers at one mega event this weekend. The event will feature clothing, home decor and jewellery. Shilpi Jatia and Ritu Bagrodia, the co-founders of The Dressing Room, tell us, “Since it’s the 13th edition, we look at this pop-up as a fun event where you can find everything under one roof, from clothes and home décor to kids-wear, jewellery and quirky stationery. We organise the exhibition just before the onset of every spring and autumn, where you get a hands-on preview of collections from various designers and brands.”

Art with a Heart by the Cuddles Foundation and Gallery 7

Gallery 7, in collaboration with the Cuddles Foundation, is organising their third annual fund-raiser called Art with a Heart. The event will feature over a hundred paintings and sculptures by some of the foremost contemporary artists. Nicholai Sachdev, owner of Gallery 7, which has curated the exhibition, tells us, “Gallery 7 is proud to continue its association with Cuddles Foundation. We have immense respect and admiration for the charity and the noble work that they do. The fact that veteran artists have priced their works way below market price points to what a great outreach Cuddles Foundation has. We are honoured to display these works and help children in any way that is possible.”

For the cause of stray dogs
For all animal lovers, and specifically, dog lovers, who want to contribute to a good cause, Vrinda Motasha has set up a fund-raising goal on Ketto.org, an Indian crowd-funding website. She aims to raise `11,000, on the occasion of her dog Tobler’s 11th birthday. The money will go towards sterilisation of strays in her neighbourhood. According to Vrinda, “It’s a fun, easy way to spread awareness and get people involved, to help strays. I urge fellow dog parents to do the same.”
