
The much-anticipated Indian Super League, a two-month long football championship that aims to promote football talent in the country, kicks off this Sunday with the first match featuring our city’s very own club, Mumbai City FC against Atletico de Kolkata at Salt Water Stadium, Kolkata. Mumbai City FC, which is owned by Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and chartered accountant Bimal Parekh, is managed by ex-Sunderland (from the Barclays Premier League) manager and football pundit, Peter Reid and boasts of international players such as Nicolas Anelka and Fredrik Ljungberg.
While the first match will be played in West Bengal, you can catch the action live, next weekend, at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, which will feature a derby of sorts with Mumbai City FC squaring off against FC Pune City. The other home games for Mumbai City FC will be against North East United FC (October 24), Kerala Blasters FC (November 2), Delhi Dynamos (November 5), FC Goa (November 17), Chennaiyin FC (November 23) and, the reverse fixture of the opening game, Atletico de Kolkata (December 7). All the games will be played at the DY Patil Stadium at 7pm and tickets are available on Book My Show. For the other games, you can tune into Star Sports, which will be broadcasting all the matches.
