Décor Tips
If you’re not sure how to incorporate traditional elements in your décor, Munawar Sharifi, founder of The Design Company, has some great tips for you. But, before you check out his tips or buy new décor items, read what he has to say about checking for what you might have at home. He tells us, “We usually have several items at home that can add aesthetic value to our décor. These things are often ignored and usually end up in cabinets. One can use them to accessorise their home and add festive cheer.” Apart from that, he gives us these tips:

  • Traditional fabrics work best as dining table covers, bedspreads and cushion covers. You can also use them as runners to incorporate a traditional element into your décor.
  • Opt for warm colours with a hint of dull gold/ bronze while choosing curtains. If you have light coloured curtains, draping a bright bandhini sari around them can give them a festive look. Curtains in dull gold/ bronze and reds can lend a the festive vibe to your living room
  • Put a bowl of water with flower petals and floating candles and use tea lights on your dining table for a Diwali touch.
  • To brighten up dull areas, you can take strings of fairy lights and put them inside transparent glass bowls.
  • Vintage mirrors not only add a traditional touch, they can also make smaller spaces look bigger. They will also lend your home a royal look.
  • Remember that adding too many décor pieces can make your house look cluttered and gaudy. That being said, don’t be extra cautious; play around with elements in your home and accessorise them to add a personal touch to it and make it even more special.
  • Ensure that you avoid permanent damage to your interiors while experimenting. Painting the walls or furniture can go wrong at times and should be left to experts. Also, make sure inflammable items such as candles are kept out of children’s reach.
