EVENT: Play by Ashvin Gidwani Productions
If you like experiencing different themes in theatre, The Big Fat City might surprise you, says Rhea Dhanbhoora
If you’re in the mood for some comedy tomorrow, we suggest heading over to the NCPA and catching the Ashvin Gidwani Productions show, titled The Big Fat City. Touted as India’s first black comedy, the three stories of the play revolve around a successful corporate couple with a new apartment in a fancy suburb in Mumbai, a TV star with a fan following and a troublesome marriage and also an aspiring actress from a small town, with a possessive boyfriend. So, what would we see if we looked beyond the curtain?
Ashvin says, “After the success of Double Deal and Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist with Mahesh Dattani, we are producing an original piece which represents a new genre in Indian theatre.”
Writer and director, Mahesh Dattani adds, “This play comes after months of research and writing and rewriting of the script and it will surely grip the audiences with its subtle dark humour. Coming together with Ashvin Gidwani to present this play, we will ensure that it reaches the right audiences across the country.”
Starring Achint Kaur, Nasirr Khan, Pooja Ruparel, Ivan Rodrigues, Sonal Joshi, Aadar Malik, Gagan Singh Sethi and Shashi Bhushan, the play promises to be a world of laughter mixed with thrills — perfect for a stormy night outing.
