The 48Hrs Team went on the search for the best burgers in Mumbai and came up with this mouth-watering list of juicy burgers. Whether you like a basic burger or a gourmet one, there is something on this list that is sure to hit the spot
Three Wise Men
Just mention the words 'chicken' and 'burger' together and a hard-core burger buff will most likely stare you down with an expression of 'you don't know what you're talking about.' However, sometimes a chicken burger can also be succulent and simply amazing and Three Wise Men is proof of that. Their in-house recipe of beer-marinated chicken patty results in a wonderfully crisp patty that, after a bite, gives way to a delicious and cheesy melt-in-your-mouth experience. The secret, they told us during our visit, is that they let the chicken marinate in the beer for as much as a whole day before grilling the patty. While that secret they are quite happy to tell us about, what they won't tell us (or you) is the secret to their lovely spicy-tart jalapeño mayo that coats the patty. The patty itself is wonderfully spiced and, thankfully, it isn't a one-off experience either. We've been there three times, and have never been disappointed with their Patty Melt Burger.

JamJar Diner
We love JamJar diner for a lot of reasons, but the most important reason is that they have the most delicious food. Burgers are a must-try at the restaurant and while everyone goes gaga over the Juicy Lucy (which is a delicious burger, so do try it by all means) we're going to let you in on a different, but equally delicious burger. The Chicken Honey Mustard + Bacon burger is a soft chicken picatta patty, with crispy onions and chipotle mayo rounding it off. Served with crispy fries and loaded with flavour, you simply must try it out.

Café Andora
If you want a no-frills burger, minus the fancy sauces and elaborate patties, head to Café Andora. This popular college eatery has been around in Bandra for ages now and still dishes out a basic old-school burger, reminiscent of the ones you've grown up eating before ingredients like bacon, stone-ground honey mustard and arugula found their way into your burger. Head here if you want a basic chicken patty sandwiched between a sesame speckled bun that is both satisfying and light on the pocket. Great for a snack or to curb a nagging burger craving, Café Andora has our vote for the best value for money burger.

Hard Rock Café
Over the years, Hard Rock Café has developed quite a reputation for itself as far as burgers are concerned and there is no doubting why. Dig into their Legendary 10 Ounce Burger and you're sure to be hooked. A thick, succulent beef patty, topped with bacon, onion rings, tomatoes, lettuce and melted cheddar cheese makes this burger an absolute delight. If you don't want to try this classic, they also have several other options such as the California, Tex-Mex and Mediterranean Burger. It is quite a large burger, so make sure you work up an appetite before heading here.

Little Door
If the great music, cute décor and little blue door weren't enough to get you to visit The Little Door, the food should be. With a range of the most delicious wedges, fries, onion rings, nachos and all sorts of food you can imagine, there's something for everyone here, included vegetarian, chicken and beef burgers. But, we'd opt for their delicious Beef Burger in a heartbeat. Not only is it reasonably priced, the burger, which comes with fries and salad at the side, is loaded with vegetables, topped with bacon and a herbed fried egg and garnished with the cutest cherry tomato. It's succulent, filling and worth every rupee.

Indigo Deli
It's no secret that you have to try the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger (`585) at Indigo Deli. With sweet, picked onions as relish and a delicious slathering of pulled pork between soft burger buns, it's one of the best in the city. But, according to Rahul Sawn, you shouldn't miss out on the Blackened Salmon Burger either. He says, “It's one of their new burgers, so I decided to give it a try even though blackened salmon doesn't sound like it would taste as good in a burger. It's so delicious! It's creamy, tender and nothing like anything I've tasted anywhere in the city. It's served with a salad and some delicious cucumbers.” With the option of add-on toppings (although those are quite expensive) and your choice of cheese, there's no reason we can think of not trying this out.

White Owl
If you're the sort of person who believes that good burgers must be beef burgers, you're going to agree with Ryan Vaz's pick of the best burger. The 23-year-old Andheri resident tells us that he loves the White Owl Sandwich Gourmet Beef Burger from The White Owl and when we hear what he says, we can't wait to try it ourselves! “The burger is so much more than just a patty and bread. It comes layered with a fried egg, relish, onions and onion rings! There's grilled tomato and wedges on the side also — and the wedges are really delicious!” We're going to take his word for it and try it out the next time we visit.

Between Breads
We have reviewed a tonne of restaurants but there have been just a handful that keep us coming back for more. Between Breads in Bandra is one such joint. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top, just great burgers. Bandra resident Rajesh Tahilramani says, “The Ten-Ounce Bacon Burger is by far the best burger I have had in this city, marquee name restaurants included. As the menu goes it’s pretty straightforward comfort food, packed with the good stuff with a lot of beef on the menu (don’t even go near there if you are a paneer patty loving person; McDonald’s down the road does a perfectly good aloo-tikki burger). We tried the Philly Steak Sandwich, the Chicken Cheese Burger and the Beef Burger (all excellent). The Coffee Banana Shake and the Bacon Fries deserve a special mention. You could eat your way through their menu and start again at the top, making a couple of unscheduled stops at the ten-ounce gem in between.” We agree completely!

Sundance Café
Sundance Café has always been the place to go when you're in South Bombay and with its new menu, it's working out to being a really great place for food too. Try their Tenderloin Burger when you visit. It's a delicious steak burger full of moist relish and mayo, crisp lettuce and served with a side of crisp, salty fries. Don't forget to tell them how you prefer your burger though, or you'll get it extremely well done.

The Big Nasty
The pub might be one of Bandra's most happening places on the weekend but we suggest you skip the sardines-in-a-tin time slot and head there for a relaxing meal during lunch or on a weekday. Why? So you can eat their burgers in peace. Order the All American Beef Burger (Rs 250-Rs 340), if you’re not a beef eater then they also have a lot of pork, chicken, lamb and vegetarian options. A word of caution however, these burgers are the reason why the pub is called nasty. They are humongous, come with fries as well as a side dish and could easily feed two greedy people. However, in a city where a good, solid burger is hard to find, (McDonald’s doesn’t cut it and you know it!) this heavenly thick patty, with a fried egg, cheese, tomatoes and sin is such a welcome treat. Other good options to try are their Hell’s Angel Burger (Rs 275) and the Turkish Lamb Burger (Rs 280). And of course, a pint of beer.

Candies
We love Candies as it is. But their Crispy Chicken Burger (the mutton version is pretty good too) makes us love them even more. The burger isn't very big but it's perfect for a quick lunch. A crunchy chicken patty is smothered with pickles, a dash of mayo and crisp lettuce all sealed in a soft bun. Every time we've eaten this burger (we've lost count!) it always hits the spot. Quality is consistent and it's very easy on the pocket. So, yes, we recommend you brave the college lunch crowd and grab this one of the go.
