Such A Riot

Friday, October 10, 2014

Online shopping is a growing trend and several brands are clamouring to join the bandwagon. But, Riot Jeans should have stayed at home, says Sara Shah

Riot, the youthful fashion apparel brand by Suditi Industries Ltd., recently launched their very own online shopping website. Although the fashion chain boasts of stores in several cities including Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai and Goa (which is impressive in itself), their online shopping website was rather disappointing.

First Impressions
Ironically, Riot Jeans doesn’t have a denim section for women’. The men’s apparel section on the other hand, does, but with very few styles to choose from. In fact, almost every section on the website had limited options, which is strange, because who doesn’t want variety?

Their home page and overall website design is boring, basic and unattractive. The women’s section was bland in comparison to the men’s, which, even with the dull design, did stock some good-looking merchandise.

Brownie Points
What I really like about this website is the affordability of the products. The clothes are priced competitively and offer value for money, so if you can get past the limited options, you’ll definitely find something according to your preferences. They also have a large variety of basics to choose from, which I really appreciated, because for me, basics are a life saviour on days when I can’t think of what to wear. I lusted over their adorable collection of stylish shorts. I loved the Riot Women’s Printed Hot Pants in pink (Rs 1,099). The men’s T-shirts and shirts were not half as bad and they had some stylish options to choose from, including the Riot Plain Polo T-shirts (Rs 599), in a variety of colours. The dresses were pretty and I was drawn to the Sleeveless Blue Denim Dress (Rs 1,199). Unfortunately, the selection of dresses was limited as well.

Final Verdict
Since I had very few options to choose from, I don’t think I’ll be visiting the website again and the boring web design does nothing to help its case. Their sole saviour is the men’s clothing section, decent pricing and the free shipping service. Keeping up to date with changing fashion trends and redesigning their website would make it more appealing. If too many options confuse you, and simplistic design is your thing, then by all means, log on to take a look.
