Nanda Das is back with his second solo exhibition at Tao Art Gallery titled Sold out Skyline. Rhea Dhanbhoora tells you more
Tripura born artist Nanda Das will be showcasing his recent work at Tao Art Gallery this month. With his second solo exhibition at the gallery, the photo realist painter is exhibiting a series inspired by Bombay and the sky, along with a dash of water and the city’s empty skyline.
Aptly titled Sold Out Skyline, the collection is about the dissonance and disorientation of urban life, giving skyscapes a beautiful and visual characteristic. He explores them beautifully with a single click of his camera. He tells us, “It was while flying at 35,000 feet that I fell in love with the sky. I wanted this sky to be part of my sky on earth. I wanted to preserve the sky that vertical Bombay is stealing away from me by erecting new skyscrapers and mechanical constructions. For me, these paintings aim to reclaim the sky. I want to bring the sky down to earth.” Each work begins with a photograph and culminates in him painting to create his own world with it. There’s a border between reality and fabrication in the series that you have to see to experience.
