Philip Varghese checks out Aroma Garden in Mazgaon and comes away more than impressed
One place where tradition is upheld is the aptly named Aroma Garden restaurant at Mazgaon. On a noisy street to the west of Dockyard Road station, the interior of this restaurant channels the ambience of a quite village-side garden.
You enter the restaurant through the air-conditioned section which then leads you to a quiet open space, well-protected with a thick wooden compound wall and greenery. The menu here is multi-cuisine with Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes and prices are nominal compared to other multi-cuisine restaurants. What pleasantly surprised us is the classic Continental selection. The fare was quite eclectic, having just the right taste one would expect from international cuisine.
The starters included Roasted Chilly Chicken (Rs 160), Sesame Wings (Rs 155), Salt-n-Pepper Prawns (Rs 225), while the Continental starters include Chicken Satay (Rs 150), Veg Crostini (Rs 145), Jalapeno Poppers (Rs 155). The pastas include Spaghetti BMCC (Rs 185), Penne Paprika (Rs 180).
The main Continental course included Grilled Ravas (Rs 275), Olive Prawns (Rs 275), Stuffed chicken with mushroom sauce (Rs 250), Cottage Cheese Irony (Rs 230) and Hutumu Rice with Harissa Gravy (Rs 250).
Aroma Garden, on both of my visits, was abuzz with a diverse crowd. When we were leaving, a black Jaguar pulled up in front and out poured a group of unlikely customers in dresses and high heels, which means that this restaurant is a must visit for food lovers.
