Event The Lil Flea
The Lil Flea is back with the 5th edition of its fun flea market-theme platform. Dev Goswami tells you what to expect
The last few months of the year are some of the most exciting ones for us — from the Diwali and New Year festivities to literature festivals and of course, The Lil Flea, there is so much to do! The Lil Flea is organising its fifth edition this weekend, featuring over 200 pop-up shops, 40 food pop-ups and around 10 live music acts. The three-day flea market will see bands such as Nikhil D’Souza, Ankur Tiwari and the Ghalat Family and Sky Rabbit. For foodies, they have offerings from Urbane Halwai, The Bohri Kitchen, Street Kings, The Pickled Chick, The Parfait Co., Where’s My Cone, Sugar Overdose and Love Crumbs.
Of course, the biggest draw is shopping, and we can tell you from our experiences that you’re going to be spoilt for choice. This year, they’ve stocked up on handcrafted bags, shoes, accessories, apparel, tees, stationeries, quirky home décor along with stores dedicated to men and children. Some of the names you can look forward to include Boriya Basta, Baby Baniya, Chatur Chidiya, Desi Drama Queen, Gentlemen’s Community, Tie Hub, Item Number, Elan, Purple Sack, Chalk Co, Own By Design and Love The World Today.
Alankar Jain and Priyanka Punjabi, founders of The Lil Flea, tell us, “We think the reason behind our amazing growth is that the city was waiting for a platform like this. The last few years have seen a sudden surge of people who are choosing to follow their creative streak rather than the monotony of a nine-to-five job. We think people love the honesty with which we put together the whole show — whether it’s the décor, music or marketing. They also appreciate the importance we give to the little things that make it so beautiful.”
They also have a lounge that will showcase films by the Shamiana Film Club, host poetry sessions by The Poetry Club and comedy acts by Improv Comedy. For children, they have a 1,000 square foot corner, replete with tippy tents, rope tunnels, pottery and games. And finally, like every year, they also have the book exchange where you can exchange an old book for a new title. The entry to the market is priced at a nominal `200 per head.
