Movies at BDL Museum

A portrait of ennui and loneliness in the big city, Pahala Adhyay, Vishnu Mathur’s experimental debut Hindi feature,  will be screened in the Bhau  Daji Lad Museum’s state-of-the-art Education Centre on August 10. Located in the sprawling precinct of the Jijamata Udyan aka Rani Baug at Byculla, the Museum has a monthly screening programme which includes free public screenings of art videos, documentaries, art house movies and much more.

The principal character in  the film is  a student of history who  seems caught up in a series of meaningless encounters. Mathur evokes this emptiness of meaning in a film whose form distends, with long takes of spaces in which the characters move around  aimlessly.

The film is based on a Tamil story titled Milechan by Ambai.

Movies at the Museum was launched on April 3,  2015, and is curated by filmmaker and cinematographer, Avijit Mukul Kishore, and architect and urban designer, Rohan Shivkumar.
