Head to Astrix if you want to have a chilled out evening says Samreen Samad
If you’re a resident of Chembur, you are in for a treat. Owner of The Jewel of Chembur Hotel, Ashish Sajanani has opened a new lounge in place of G-spot in the hotel itself. The hotel has a record of having good restaurants like Le Café, Moksha and now Astrix.
Astrix — The Lounge is a combination of comfortable interiors, good music and great drinks at a moderate price. The bar menu is interesting with a variety of drinks. We started the evening with the house special cocktails — Twisted Relish (`250) and The Perfect Three (`250). Twisted Relish is a whisky based drink with pomegranate seeds, lime juice and coriander. The Perfect Three is a good combination of three ingredients — vodka, basil and lime juice. A must try!
Their menu is well designed and easy to browse through. The manager suggested we try the Cajun Chicken Skewers (`175), Fish Chilly Basil Leaves (`300) and Stuffed Mushrooms (`200). The Cajun Chicken was mediocre but the Fish Chilly Basil Leaves was well cooked in soya sauce with basil and herbs.
The stuffed mushrooms were stuffed with sundried tomatoes and cheese — you can’t miss this. The main course is made at The Le Café kitchen which is next door. We tried the Grilled Fish (`275) and Fricassee of Garden Vegetables (`175) — both good choices.
If you want to end your meal on a sweet note, you will have to go next door to The Le Café. And we highly recommend that you do. Their cheesecake is scrumptious and their innovative Cutting Dessert is served in the cutting chai glass.
The service is efficient. You can rent the space for parties with a capacity of about 50 people. The décor is swanky and at times they even make place for a dance floor. They also have happy hours from Monday to Thursday between 6.30pm to 8.30pm and Fridays are retro nights.
Astrix is great for residents of Chembur. If you’re not from here but looking to have a good time without spending much and don’t mind travelling, then Astrix is the place to go.
