Photography camps are much more fun if they’re in the great outdoors. Rhea Dhanbhoora tells you more about the Gyaan Exchange workshop
It’s time to de-stress with a two-day weekend getaway to help you hone your photography skills. Expert Girish Menon is collaborating with Gyaan Exchange to bring you a photography workshop that will change the way you see things. All you need is a good camera (SLR, DSLR, Micro-four-third) and a sense of adventure. Girish tells us, “Our photography workshops present a great opportunity for participants to experience and photograph life in 1,000-year-old villages. The daily village activities comprise of farming on gorgeous hilltops that overlook splendid valleys — ploughing, sowing, threshing and harvesting depending on the season, chopping wood and cooking food over the firewood at the villager’s houses. Other activities that one can engage in are birdwatching, star gazing, climbing trees, cricket and swimming in the shallow river.”
The workshop offers complete access to the village of Purushwadi, its people and farms and there will be nature trails with local guides and you’ll witness tribal art and dance. Purushwadi is 220 kms from Mumbai off Igatpuri, there will be transport available from Dadar to the village. The travel charges for the return journey train ticket is not included in the workshop fees. There will be tents, provided with mattresses, blankets, bed sheets and pillows.
The workshop costs `2,999 for students and `3,999 for others. It includes accommodation, all meals, photography orientations, local guides, all the village activities, and jeep ride from (and back to) the nearest railway station. Another reason to enroll yourself is that by enrolling, you provide an 18% in the average household income for over 80 households in the village as part of the programs efforts to connect urban and rural communities. They also endeavour to contribute towards the UN’s MDG’s through Rural Tourism.
