Serial snackers are in for a treat, because there’s a new nacho brand in town. Rhea Dhanbhoora tells you more about the AllThatsGood Mex Nachos
When a nacho brand has a tagline that says it’s the only brand that a bandito would steal, I’m going to sit up and pay attention. I’m not always impressed by pre-packaged nachos. They usually need a lot of cheese dip or a little toasting to avoid tasting doughy, and most are way too thick. To avoid constant disappointment, I usually stick to trusted brands or potato wafers. With all the fanfare surrounding the Mex Nachos however, I had to dig in to sample a few packets.
Branding Basics
One thing these nachos have really managed to hit the nail on the head with, is their packaging. Everything from the funky fonts and bold colours to the funny phrases on each flavour, I think you’re going to spend an extra five minutes reading through everything on the packet before you attempt to tear it open. Unfortunately, I’d suggest keeping a pair of scissors handy here, because as attractive as the packaging looks, it’s not in the least bit convenient to tear open on-the-go.
All About The Bite
While there are delectable nachos and dismal ones, AllThatsGood floats somewhere in between. The nachos are not too thick and have the perfect, crisp bite while steering clear of being too thin and crispy. But, they’re still not toppling our favourites off the list.
Flavour Favourites
When it comes to the flavours, they go from the basics and the usual suspects, to those that are as innovative as their packaging — and some even slightly suspicious. The NY Deli Cheese does well, but it’s run-off-the-mill.
The Texas Smoky BBQ leaves the perfect smoky aftertaste on your palette, but the Sweet Jalapeno is one of my favourites. The Salsa Picante does okay, but after finishing off a small packet, you’re going to be satiated by the slightly sweet taste (it would have been better much hotter), so don’t plan a binge with this one.
The Delhi Papdi Chat is a pleasant surprise. I wrinkled my nose when I read it; I’m not particularly fond of Papdi Chat in general. The nachos however, are subtly flavoured, so even though you’re wondering why as you bite into them, you’re not going to be able to stop at one. The Paneer BBQ Masala however, is not an experiment that succeeded. The flavour is abysmal and I couldn’t get through the small packet. But, if the prices were slightly lower, I’d be snacking on the rest through most of my day.
Next time, we’re going to try a Sea Salt & Black Pepper and dig in to some of their Mexican dips too — just to review them of course!
