EXHIBITION A new wave of artists
Priyanka Singh tells you what to expect at Tomorrow, the exhibition at Kala Ghoda
Just like with music, and the connection between our heartbeat and the changes in tempo, in paintings and sculptures there is a relationship between what we experience physically or visually in forms and spaces. Curated by Tushar Sethi, the exhibition titled Tomorrow, brings together an array of paintings and sculptures by some of the most compelling artists to have emerged on the Indian art scene in the last decade. These are artists who have remapped the territory of painting at a time when the new media practices dominate public attention.
This exhibition examines contemporary painting and clearly the medium is no longer bound by traditional categories of abstraction, figuration, portraiture, landscape or even by a conventional definition of paint on canvas. The artwork of this new generation of artists span across several forms and attitudes.
Curator Tushar Sethi says, “The show is a unique amalgamation of paintings and sculptures by some of India's most compelling artists in their 30s and 40s. These are the key influencers in the Modern Indian Art scene who have introduced the nation to the concept of contemporary art. They engage in various mediums that go beyond a brush and a canvas, such as video, digital instillation, photography and performance. It is a pleasure for us at ICIA to host an exhibition of this nature and magnitude.”
