Sara Shah tells you more about Bandish 2015, a music festival dedicated to the legendary composers of Bollywood

Bandish — a festival that pays tribute to legendary composers is back in its 6th edition and is all set to give you a fill of the music of yesteryears. The festival will see prominent artists such as Shankar Mahadevan, Shubha Mudgal and Ashiwini Bhide Deshpande paying tribute to legendary composers of Bollywood, such as Miyan Tansen and Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. You can also enjoy a segment by singer Shankar Mahadevan called Baithak to Bollywood, where he describes the role of Bandish in a melodic improvisation across genres such as classical, semi classical, light and pop. Dr. Suvarnalata Rao, head of programming — Indian music at NCPA, tells us, “With every edition of Bandish, we aim to bring the work of Indian composers who have contributed immensely to our rich, musical heritage. It’s a great platform to showcase creations  that have been passed on to us through generations and is still significant in today’s time. This year at Bandish, every music lover will get the chance to cherish and relive different eras of music, which will be presented by esteemed musicians keeping alive the memory of some of the greatest composers that our country has ever seen.”
