Classical Confluence
The Nellai Co-operative Housing Society at Chembur is organising the second edition of its Ganesh Utsav classical music progam, Tribhukti—The Confluence showcasing three young talents Ramakant Gaikwad (Vocals), Yadnesh Raikar (on violin) and Yashwant Vaishnav (on tabla) on September 15 in the society’s premises. The concert is open to the public. Nellai Society has been celebrating Ganesh Utsav since the past 25 years and started Tribhukti last year with the objective of reviving the golden era when greats like Bhimsen Joshi performed at Ganesh pandals in the city.

Divine Dancing
This program presents the concept of God as form or formless through Indian classical dances like Kathak, Odissi, Bharata Natyam and Mohini Attam by a group of talented young dancers including Prachi Saathi, Pooja Pant, Namrata Mehta and Saji Menon.

Dhrupad Workshop
Dhrupad is the oldest surviving genre of Hindustani music. In collaboration with the Dhrupad Sansthan Bhopal Nyas, internationally renowned exponents of this art form, Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha, and their senior disciples will conduct monthly workshops at the NCPA. Workshop sessions will highlight the science of swara and raga, voice culture, music and yoga and laya and tala.

Understanding Hindustani Music
The NCPA is offering an opportunity to uninitiated students, adults and working professionals to get an insight into the treasury of Indian music with an appreciation session conducted by Dr. Suvarnalata Rao, head of its Indian Music department. Highlighting the distinctive features of various music traditions, Dr Rao will lean towards ‘art or classical music’, introducing the basic concepts governing performance and aesthetics of Hindustani music. Dr Rao is a trained musicologist and senior disciple of eminent sitarist Arvind Parikh. She will conduct the session in English and will include audio and video recordings.
