Homage to Kelucharan Mohapatra
The 8th edition of NCPA’s three-day August Dance Residency pays tribute to Odissi exponent Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. From the traditional expertise of the Chitrakaras through the entertaining art of Gotipua and Jatra, the bhakti-oriented rasa leela and innovative attempts of Annapurna Theatre, his journey was one of continuous growth.
Co-curated with Mohapatra’s senior students Jhelum Paranjape and Daksha Mashruwala, his Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee son Ratikant and Srjan Odissi Dance Institute, the opening day will see the Srjan Ensemble showcase the Padma Vibhushan recipient’s works and that of his son. The second day will have a screening followed by an interactive session. August 12 and 13 will feature a workshop by Ratikant Mohapatra.
