Glynda Alves tells you why The Cut Collective in Bandra is more than just your friendly neighbourhood salon
After playing with three friendly dogs, grey clothes covered in patches of fur and paw prints, I entered The Cut Collective. Don’t follow my example. I was surrounded by pristine white and felt like a furry, out of place grey ball. But, the Cut Collective owner, the soft spoken and friendly Lekha Shah, dismissed my state and was so welcoming, it was hard to feel out of place for long.
The Cut Collective, with its white sofas, spotless floor and large oval mirrors, might be at risk of looking sterile, but the staff and patrons are so laid-back and easy going, it transforms the place into an elegant and classy salon. And so, we were expecting prices to match the décor.
However, the rates of services here are surprisingly reasonable. The basics such as threading eyebrows and upper lip will cost you `50 and `30 while a haircut will set you back `500 onwards. But, the Cut Collective, as the name suggests, also boasts of other services for hair, makeup, skin and nails as well as scrubs, reflexology and therapeutic massages, which I really recommend. The prices range from `300 to `2,000 and it’s a steal! The massages are conducted in a separate room and my masseuse, Sameer, stretched my stiff back neck, eased knots, loosened muscles and even lifted me up to crack my back! The massage is really intense and they pay special attention to your problem areas.
Their pedicures (`400) are also great. Usually, we have to make do with lackluster pedis at our local salon where they actually just soak your feet and paint your nails. But, here they really take trouble over it and the foot rub is not just an unenthusiastic pat down.
Also, if you’re a Bandra resident, we recommend you avail of their membership scheme. For `500 for six months and just `750 a year, you get 15% off on all services. We think that’s a pretty good deal. Lekha sums up The Cut Collective by saying, “We don’t intimidate with prices, people or atmosphere. It’s your around-the-corner beauty joint.” But, we think it surpasses that.
