If you’re looking for a luxurious spa experience, Sara Shah tells you why you should visit Spa by JW Marriott, a haven for spa enthusiasts
I wouldn’t go so far as to call myself an expert when it comes to spas and spa treatments. While I’ve been to some, I’ve never had a complete spa experience, so I was excited about visiting Spa by JW Marriott, and if you’re not a spa enthusiast yet, this is the best place to begin. Located on the 10th floor of the JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai Sahar at Andheri, the spa has an intricate web of passages and corridors, housing seven treatment rooms that include a couple’s treatment room and an Ayurvedic treatment room. They also have a suave jacuzzi, with a beautiful view of the city. The staff is hospitable and gave me a thorough tour of the entire spa, which offers a host of services that are divided into four categories– Calm, Indulge, Invigorate and Renew. The treatments under Calm, as the name suggests, are meant to put you in a state of tranquility, while Indulge aims to pamper and nourish your soul. Invigorate, on the other hand strives to enliven your body and provide clarity of mind, while Renew provides a sense of overall well-being.
I decided to try the Ultimate Aroma Therapy Treatment (Rs 4,350) and the Relaxing Massage (Rs 4,650) under Invigorate. A 25-minute treatment, the Relaxing Massage is one of their express treatments and is meant for guests in a hurry. I was made to kneel face down on one of their chairs, while the masseuse massaged my back and shoulders. I was told that the chair was heated in order to promote blood circulation. As uncomfortable as the position sounds, it was quite comfortable and as the masseuse massaged my back, I instantly felt my tense shoulders relax. Before the treatment, I didn’t even realise that I had any tension in my shoulders to begin with!
After the Relaxing Massage, I was taken to one of their gorgeous treatment rooms for the Ultimate Aroma Therapy treatment. My feet were washed with a solution of salt, water and lime — a combination that is believed to release negative energy from the body. I then lay back on the comfortable massage table, which was also heated. Using fragrant oil, the masseuse massaged away the stress from my arms, legs, back and shoulders. By the end of the 60-minute treatment, I felt relaxed enough to fall into a deep slumber. After the massage, I took a relaxing shower in one of their well-equipped shower rooms and sipped on a delicious, herbal tea. Lounging in my bathrobe, I couldn’t help but beam into the distance, feeling dazed, but refreshed at the same time. The treatments are very highly priced (quite predictably so), but given how relaxing they are, I wouldn’t mind spending a little extra in order to treat myself.
