Log On!

Friday, April 19, 2013

You’ve logged on to buy a t-shirt but after an hour of browsing your shopping cart is full! If this sounds familiar, you are one of the voluntary victims (like us!) of online shopping. And since this addiction is not stopping anytime soon, we review some of the popular retail websites and give you our verdict on whether you should log on or not...

Myntra.com
Myntra has got a great collection of casual clothes for men, women and kids. If you’re looking for everyday wear, this is the site for you. It’s reasonable and we think that their collection of daily Indian wear is pretty vast compared to other sites we’ve logged on to. Myntra.com also gets my vote for t-shirts. They are reasonably priced and what I really like is that they give the measurements and what size the model is wearing, so that you can gauge how a garment would fit. However, I do feel that the size runs a bit big and the quality is sometimes a little questionable. However, at prices as low as Rs 299, we can hardly complain. For dresses, the size detailing is perfect! Their sale section seems to be male dominated, but this is one of the few websites that is so, so we’ll let the guys have this one! They also offer a range of discounts and coupons which give you good deals. We ordered using the cash on delivery option, delivery was prompt and the package came neatly packed.

Rock.in
Rock.in is laid out very well and it’s a pleasure to browse through the site. For women, they’ve got a great pick of office clothes as well as maxi dresses in subtle colours. This site is definitely targeting the older crowd because the prices on average are a little steep. But, the clothes are sophisticated — you won’t find much razzle dazzle here. And we mean that in the best possible way. But sadly, what we saw wasn’t what we got when we ordered. While the size was right, the colour on the site and the colour of the outfit were completely different. But, where Rock.in scores points is on their swimwear. They have an amazing sale with bikini tops costing as little as Rs 349. Women must check out the brand La Redoute and men should log on to the hoodies and sweatshirts section. Also, unlike other websites, some of the clothes are even available in a 6XL.

Hitplay.in
When it comes to unique, funky and quirky products, nothing beats Hitplay. From cool electronic accessories and gadgets to décor items, food and bar accessories and party games, there is a lot to choose from. Products bought from this website will certainly get you envious stares and the question — ‘where did you get that from?’ Another thing that we like about hitplay.in is that the merchandise from the website is affordable. You’ll find items that are priced as low as Rs 200 to products that will set you back by a few thousand rupees. The only thing that I wish gets better is the website itself. It is easy to navigate, but the design could be improved upon.

Inkfruit.com
Inkfruit.com has clothes and apparel for men and women. However, their collection for women leaves much to be desired, both in terms of designs and variety. The women’s collection isn’t bad, but unless you want to make a quick purchase of a plain spaghetti top or an everyday-wear t-shirt, there are a lot of other websites that will offer you better options and are more value for money than Inkfruit. On the other hand, their men’s collection is a completely different story! There is a lot of variety and the men’s casual section is, we think, the website’s USP. You can choose from plain, graphic as well as a variety of polo t-shirts. The designs are a mix from the brands Zovi and Inkfruit itself. I once ordered a wallet from the website. Delivery took three days and in terms of quality, I was impressed. I wished there were brighter colours, but apart from that, I found it to be worth my money (Rs 350). Once you make a purchase, they also keep sending out discount vouchers every week or so. The prices on the website range from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000.

Fashionandyou.com
Fashion and You is visually appealing, and while it depends on what you’re looking for and how lucky you get (the collections are not permanent and change quite frequently), you’ll be able to shop for anything — from bags, accessories, clothing and shoes to linen, bath and home accessories, knick knacks for your gadgets and the odd office binder. The different sales are attractively advertised in boxes and you get great deals on brands from Wrangler, Diesel, Burberry and Kazo to amazing prices on lesser known brands with equally stylish ware. The returns may not be too convenient (they’re not very prompt with exchange or with getting back to you). The dresses in particular, at prices ranging from Rs 500-1,000, have never disappointed, arriving in under a week and fitting perfectly. The perfumes and body products are also worth browsing through. The site has a timer on its shopping cart, so you have to click and buy quickly or start all over. But, beware of shipping costs!

Shopnineteen.com
Coloured tights, printed skirts, Mango jeans — you name it and they have it. Their website encourages you to browse and click a lot; so I was a little disappointed with the dresses, tops and denims, but check out their shoes, accessories and bottoms. Even their bags are good, but prices may seem a little unfair and erratic. My first purchase on the site was a bright blue canvas pair of shoes for a mere Rs 500, which came in a blink of an eye (three days), with decent packaging and a sweet ‘Thank you for shopping’ note that made me want to log on and shop more. Service is steady and the site is easy to browse through. The size charts aren’t too convenient and I wish they had an easier price navigation section.

Stylefiesta.com
More interesting than the products on Stylefiesta is the layout and that’s what first drew me to the site. While the site is extremely appealing visually, the clothes quite unique and very haute — the prices threw me off a little. Get ready to pay at least Rs 2,000 for almost anything you order on the site. The dresses, tops, blouses and shoes are priced at Rs 1,500 onwards. I wish there were more bags and that their prices were friendlier for the average Joe. Accessories here are gorgeous, but expensive (Rs 800 onwards for necklaces). Delivery is erratic, sometimes quick and sometimes a bit laggy, but it’s not disappointing by any means. For those to whom price is a mere bump, it’s a good place to log in to upgrade your wardrobe. They also have a pretty bikini collection to kickstart your summer.

Zivame.com
The first thing that impressed me about Zivame’s website is the non-fussy way in which it helped us get my measurements. The bra size calculator, instead of me going through various steps, in a two-step way it calculated my size. Zivame has all kinds of undergarments that you can imagine. The variety is pretty wide as well — from Puma and Enamor to Jockey and Triumph, you’ll get to choose from a lot of brands. That also makes the price range flexible. I had ordered a pair of boy shorts from the site and it was exactly how it looked. A friend once got a bra from the site and although that category did mention a no exchange policy, she called the customer care and they agreed to exchange it. All in all, Zivame is a one-stop-shop for all your lingerie woes.

Stalkbuylove.com
When it comes to trendy wear for young women, especially dresses, at an affordable rate, stalkbuylove is a saviour. The dresses and bottom wear are very reasonable and the variety is amazing. However, I found the tops a little overpriced. Another thing that I absolutely love about this website is that they also have a tab that categorises clothes on the basis of their styles and designs such as polkas, stripes, lacy and bohemian. They also have a separate tab for sale goodies. I ordered a top and a dress from the site and while the top seemed thick enough to me on the website, the one that I received was quite sheer. However, the dress was a perfect fit. But, before receiving them, I had come across a glitch in the delivery. When the package came to me, the label mentioned just the top, but the price was for two. So, I had to return it. I called the customer service (the lady was very polite and helpful) and she assured me that this was just a technical lag from their side and the package indeed contains both the items. Also, the website doesn’t stock any other brands. So everything that you buy will have the website’s label on it.

Koovs.com
A shopping website any woman will fall in love with; we are big fans of Koovs. From the season’s hottest trends to latest looks for several occasions, this website is a treat for the eyes and any fashion lover. They stock various well-known brands, however, we love their in-house brand the most for its designs and affordable prices. Their sale section is worth checking out where you are sure to find a gorgeous outfit in your budget. We specially like their collection of dresses. You can pick a dress for as low as Rs 400. The size guides are to the T and the fit is unquestionable. Their delivery service is quick (four days) and their exchange service is prompt as well.

Faballey.com
While the site opens to a ‘register now and get Rs 250 off’, this offer isn’t going to save you much money, as Faballey is priced on the higher side (Rs 600 for basic tops). This is mainly because they stock only designer brands. If you don’t mind shelling out a few extra bucks, this website can definitely give your wardrobe a fashion transformation. With a special tab for latest trends and a fashion blog which is very helpful, Faballey is a delight to browse through. Their jewellery collection, especially their neckpiece and rings, is a must check out and is reasonably priced as well (Rs 350 onwards). I ordered a tribal neckpiece and it came in the said time period, with the neckpiece wrapped in bubble wrap and a net pouch, in a sturdy box. If you love colours, Faballey is worth checking out as they have a wide variety and as many colours possible.

Zovi.com
Zovi was one of the first shopping websites and was a big hit initially. However, apart from the layout of the website, their variety and styles haven’t changed much. While the women’s section has no such impressive clothes, we quite liked their collection of bags. They are reasonably priced too (Rs 399 onwards). Their men’s collection is great and has wide options to choose from, especially the collection of shirts. They also have offers and discounts going on daily. I ordered two clutches and jewellery from Zovi, which were delivered in four quick days. The quality of the bags was good, but one of the neckpieces broke as I removed it from the box. However, their customer care service was friendly and prompt. They exchanged the piece within two days.
