Actor and stand-up comedian, Vir Das, essays the role of a man in quest of his perfect match in his latest film, Amit Sahni Ki List. He talks to Rohit Pramar about the film, his stage shows and more
Tell us about your character from Amit Sahni Ki List.
I play a quirky, 28-year-old investment banker, who is looking for the girl of his dreams. He is so driven to find her that he pens down all the qualities he wants in a girl. In pursuit of this perfect girl, you will see him with different girls all the time. He’s like a serial dater. It was a fun character to play.
Tell us about your experience while shooting for this film?
It was a lot of fun, since I got to do several things that I hadn’t done before. From jumping off Tiger Point in Lonavala (for a scene) to sky diving, I’m a big adrenaline junkie and this is the kind of stuff I have wanted to do. I am always on the lookout for a new, unique experience. So, it was fun. Everyone on the sets was like-minded. We had a great time working together.
You also do stage shows. How do you manage to find the time to do both?
Honestly speaking, 90% of my time goes in to making films. But, I am planning to change that. While signing the contract for all my upcoming films, I am going to put a clause that says I won’t work post 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Hopefully that should take care of it.
Last year you had two releases, this is your third release this year, and there are more to come. Are you happy with the way your career has shaped up?
I have no complaints. I started with small roles and got supporting roles. Soon after Delhi Belly, I started to get lead roles. So, there has been no looking back. For the past few years, I have been working constantly. I shot for as many as eight films in the last two years and they are all releasing soon. I’m enjoying it.
Are you still single?
No, I am not. I am in a perfectly normal relationship.
How do you stay fit?
I do not go to gym nor do I have the time for it. But, I do go for midnight runs; they work the best for me.
What’s next for you?
After this, there are two more films that will release this year — Saxx Ki Dukaan and Santa Banta. I am currently shooting for couple of films and in talks for three more. So, let’s see!
