Indola, a professional hair-care brand, promises to inject more life into tired, brittle hair with its Extrassence hair spa treatment. Shirley Mistry brings you the results

If there is one thing I grudge Mumbai for, it is how the weather and water have ruined my hair. No matter how careful I am, my hair always ends up looking dry and rough. So, when I heard of Indola’s new nourishing and hydrating hair spa, Extrassence, I was more than eager to give it a try, simply to see the extent to which it could salvage my hair.

With Henkel as its parent company and Schwartzkopf as a sister concern, Indola professional treatment products sound promising. The Extrassence hair spa claims to thoroughly cleanse your hair, nourish it from root to tip and restore its natural shine and bounce.

The treatment started off with a hair wash, using a shampoo that is specially designed for this treatment, after which a hair masque was applied. Here, there are two variants available — one for chemically-treated hair and the other for hair that hasn’t been chemically-treated. I opted for the latter and the technician meticulously sectioned my hair and coated each part liberally with the masque, taking time to work it into my scalp. I was extremely impressed by the attention paid to each section (there were several!) and the fact that she didn’t skinch on the quantity of the masque. After applying it from root to tip, she went gave me a short, but effective head massage. I’m not sure whether this actually helps absorb the product better, but it calms you in a matter of minutes.

Next, my hair was steamed for 10-15 minutes to help absorb the product, after which it was rinsed out and a finishing serum was applied. As my hair air-dried, it looked visibly shinier and felt really soft too. For the next one week, my hair looked and felt hydrated and deeply conditioned, as promised.

Priced from `1,000 onwards, the treatment is worth the money and undergoing it every 6-8 weeks, especially if your hair is dry and doesn’t gel with Mumbai’s weather, pollution and water, is a really good idea.
