Grillopolis promises to transport you to the aromatic and colourful bazaars of Turkey. Janhvi Patel reviews the food, service and ambience to see if it lives up to the hype
From the mansion-like, intricately carved entrance and wooden arches to the stone flooring and plush upholstery, everything at Grillopolis spells grandeur. The tastefully designed restaurant oozes class and a mysterious, old-world charm. The ambience transports you straight to the bazaars of Turkey. Co-owner Nisheeth Saran drew inspiration from the multi-cultural city of Istanbul to design his restaurant and menu. Like the unique city, the menu comprising of exclusive grilled dishes, Grillopolis has a sprinkling of Lebanese, Indian, Spanish, and French influences.
There are three seating areas — outdoor, ground level and a Lounge area with an all-day bar. The service is attentive and polite. You can order a la carte or opt for the fixed buffet, priced at `500 for lunch and `650 for dinner.
Seated in the spacious lounge area, we ordered the Relish Platter (`250) with falafels, fresh veggies, pita bread and three dips (hummous, baba ghanoush, and tabouleh). The Mediterranean Paneer (`250) on Espetada (hook and skewer) was creamy, soft and flavourful.
The Parmesan Grilled Chicken (`250) was soft, perfectly spiced and melt in the mouth. The Cage Grilled Indian Salmon with Zatar and Parsley (`250) was grilled to perfection. The Grilled Broccoli with Cheese Sauce (`250) was spicy and cheesy. The Baked Jacket Potatoes (`250) were cheesy and soft with a flavourful smattering of butter.
We tried bite-sized portions of the Desserts of the Day (`100). The Blueberry Cheese Cream was creamy and not too sweet, the Icing Brownie was chocolaty but could have done without the icing. The Fruit Cheesecake was moist with bits of succulent fruit. There is room for improvement in the desserts section however.
Grillopolis is the new must-visit dining destination in Mumbai. Every penny spent here is completely worth it. It is family friendly and a fitting venue for all your celebrations too.
