Exhibition From Mumbai To Bombay
If you reminisce about scenes from old Mumbai, with its trams and historical British buildings, Anindra Siqueira tells you where you can experience all of it this weekend
From Mumbai to Bombay is an exhibition of vintage images captured during the 1900s by Ajay Goyal, Anil Dave and Dr. Jehangir Sorabjee. If you’re the type to steep yourself in yesteryear grandeur, allow yourself to be captivated by the soul-stirring images of Apollo Bunder with the Gateway of India, the Old Taj Mahal Hotel, the Green Mansion, Kala Ghoda, Horniman Circle, Colaba Railway Station, which no longer exists, and many others. Gallerist Jagdish Aggarwal tells us, “These pictures were taken a hundred years ago. The exhibition shows the grand old buildings of Bombay, which reflect the power of the British Emperor and the authority of the government. Most of today’s buildings are merely utilitarian.”
