Bollywood’s original khiladi, Akshay Kumar is back to his roots with STAR Plus’ Master Chef India. The show sees Akshay hosting and judging it along with experienced chefs Kunal Kapoor and Ajay Chopra. If you thought that the show was just about cooking, think again. There’s a good dose of drama and action too. And with Akki hosting it, you must be prepared to fall off your couch laughing as well.
Apart from the show taking you back to your roots, what other reasons prompted you be a part of this show?
Bringing me back to my roots is big enough reason to make me do this show. If I have to say the same thing in Hindi then I’d say yeh show ne mujhe meri aukat dikha dee. (The show has shown me my true self).
When did you inculcate an interest in cooking and how did you become a chef?
I developed an interest in cooking around 28 years ago. I was in Thailand, being trained in martial arts, I landed up with a job at a restaurant. After a while I began to enjoy it. Eventually though I got into acting.
How challenging is the show for you?
It’s definitely challenging for both me as well as the contestants. There are contestants who have cried on this show. I want to give housewives of the country a platform to showcase their potential and talent. They are the unsung heroes of many families.
There is a similar show on a rival channel. How different is your show from it?
I haven’t seen the show at all so I can’t comment. I have done my work and tried to give it my best.
From hosting Khatron Ke Khiladi to Master Chef, what have you enjoyed the most?
Food and stunts have been an integral part of my life and it’s impossible for me to choose one over the other, I have enjoyed both equally.
Would you like to share any kitchen secrets with us?
Keeping your kitchen clean is extremely important. Washing your vegetables properly is also essential.
So, make sure you catch the cooking excitment every Saturday and Sunday at 9pm, on Star Plus.
