An all-inclusive arts festival, YouTheatre, has announced three days of intensive workshops that will cover fields of dance, music and theatre, starting from September 12. The theme of the festival is Change, and the workshops will give you the opportunity to dance with Shiamak Davar, learn music from the True School of Music and acquire solo acting skills under the guidance of Divya Palat.
Divya tells us, “We believe that art and artistic expression are the most underused tools of change. This is a festival that has been created to make a difference and to give people across different age groups a chance to learn, act, dance or sing and change their lives... even if it’s just for the weekend!”
At Shiamak’s workshop, his team will teach the class to improvise a dance movement set, based on what change means to them. Divya will be training people to perform monologues that are based on their own lives and/ or remarkable obstacles that they’ve overcome, in a bid to inspire others. At True School’s workshop, the team will show you how to create an original song from scratch, teaching you how to mix it and how to remix it. The registration fee for these master classes is Rs 1,000. Apart from this, the festival will also feature theatre performances, a play competition, a short film competition and some heartfelt, creative performances from four NGOs on the very first day.
The performances on the final day promise to be inspirational, as they will feature everything the participants have learnt in the workshops, along with screening the best short plays and short films from the festival. On September 13 and 14, you can also participate in one-hour workshops, where you can learn a range of activities including Zumba and napkin folding or go on a heritage walk.
