Pico Express has just opened in Bandra. Gargi Bansod checks it out...
Quick bites, takeaway service and nutritional value is the mantra of the newly opened Pico Express. It’s not your regular sit-in restaurant as the food is pre-cooked and you just have to choose from the menu. However, this tiny joint has variety.
The ambience is simple with a couch in one corner and chairs and tables spread out in the inner and outer sections. The wraps, sandwiches, salads and shakes are displayed in a cold storage shelf along the wall. The other meals are stored in takeaway boxes near the counter. We like the bright green and violet circles on the walls, which gave the joint a vibrant feel.
Their menu might seem simple but all the dishes are unique in their ingredients. They offer soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, a few hot dishes, juices, smoothies, beverages such as coffee and tea and an interesting line-up of desserts. We settled for a Pasta & Chicken Salad (Rs 125), a serving of Mushroom Lasagna (Rs 140) and the Roast Chicken with chilli mayo sandwich (Rs 115).
One thing we would give you a heads up about is that none of their dishes are seasoned. So, you have to add that pinch of salt and pepper to your food. Also, don’t expect fancy plates as all your food will be served in takeaway boxes.
The salad was quite bland, even after pouring the dressing over it. However, the vegetables were fresh and the chicken and pasta were well steamed. The Roast Chicken sandwich didn’t win our votes either as we wished there was more filling and spice. However, we loved the lasagna. It was light, stuffed with mushrooms and was good value for money. They also bake their own bread and we were quite happy with the softness of the ones served to us. We were glad we didn’t skip dessert as it was a delight! The Chocolate Terrine (Rs 75) is a treat for chocolate lovers and has a perfect melt-in-your-mouth bite. And we didn’t even realise how quickly we gobbled down the Banoffee Tart (Rs 75).
We loved the concept of healthy meals and quick bites, but we aren’t big fans of the food. We think it could be a little less bland but considering their theme is to serve healthy, nutritious food, the less salt and spiciness fits the bill. It’s reasonably priced and we would definitely recommend their desserts, breakfast and items from the bakery. If you aren’t a Bandra resident, Pico Express has an outlet in Andheri, Lokhandwala as well.
