A tribute to the people
Artist Laxman Aelay, who started his artistic journey as a sign-board painter, is introducing his latest series of paintings titled Fellow Travellers. Ever since his first exhibition, Laxman has been known to depict the lives of rural folk from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. In his latest show, he pays tribute to people who have always been a part of his life as well as his work. Laxman, who considers himself largely self-taught, is currently studying The Nakshi painting and Dalit Bahujan Performative art forms for a Ph.D. He previously pursued BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) after giving up his salaried job as a sign-board painter.
Speaking about his current exhibition, Laxman says, “I come from a village where signboard painters were known as artists and the theme for my show depicts rural life, where I call these people as my fellow travellers.” Some of the images that you can look forward to include a man in a red shirt and white muslin dhoti stepping away into the background and that of a satisfied young baby, who comfortably sleeps, rested in the crook of the mother’s neck. The images can be truly captivating. Don’t miss the show!
