
Love for Assam!
The third edition of the Sankaradeva Movement will take place at the NCPA next weekend. The day-long programme aims to propagate the socially relevant messages of Srimanta Sankaradeva and promote the multi-ethnic culture of Assam.
The programme will open with a discussion on the relevance of Sankaradeva in modern India, which will have Vaishnava scholar Dr. Sunil Kothari; Governor of Assam, JB Patnaik; filmmaker and a top police officer, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta; actors, Adil Hussain and Victor Banerjee and brand ambassador of the Sankaradeva Movement, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan participating.
Shyamkanu Mahanta, the person behind this movement, credits the event for highlighting the culture of Assam, despite the current conflicts taking place there. He tells us, “The Sankaradeva Movement is an attempt to showcase the culture of Assam and to promote Sankaradeva, who was responsible for the creation of Assamese society and for bringing together various castes, communities and religions.”
The show will have a number of attractions, including performances by Anup Jalota, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Bollywood singer Zubin Garg, Kalpana Patowary, Naga folk singer Guru Reuban Masangva as well as a dance drama by several leading actors from Assam. Famous music director Pritam is also expected to perform along with a few other Bollywood celebrities.
