The iconic Pearl Jam would be proud of the city this weekend. They played their first gig at the Off Ramp Cafe, exactly twenty years ago. They have since spearheaded the grunge movement of the Nineties and changed the course of alternative rock.
On Ocotber 22, as Pearl Jam turns 20, two bands and a bunch of guest musicians are coming together to pay tribute to the ideology and raw energy that is Pearl Jam. Bands featured are Split and Black, as well as musicians from Tough on Tobacco, BlackstratBlues and Pentagram.
Split members are excited about the gig. Vocalist Garreth says, “Any gig excites us but I think being involved in the anniversary celebrations in our own way is even better. Pearl Jam is a great band with brilliant and dedicated musicians who are passionate about their politics.”
The entry fee is `150. “I think this is a bigger tribute where you show where their music has taken you and not simply play covers of their songs,” Garreth adds.
