Artists from across India and the world are coming together to pay homage to Ustad Allarakha, known fondly in musical circles as Abbaji. The legendary guru and tabla maestro will be honoured by classical music from global greats. Co-presented by Taj Mahal Tea, Reliance Foundation, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Ltd. and co-sponsored by Kotak Mahindra AMC Ltd., the event will begin early in the morning with a session that will conclude with a spiritual tribute by Dr. N. Rajam and Zakir Hussain. There will also be an afternoon session, with performances by Sadanand Naimpally (Tabla), Anantha R. Krishnan (Mridangam), Satyajit Talwalkar (Tabla) and the Panchratna Sanai Tafa Mandal (Shehnai, Taasha and Sambal) and an evening session with the Khol Drummers from Kolkatta, the Panchratna Sanai Tafa Mandal from Nagar and Lil John Roberts from the U.S. The grand finale of the evening will be the Jam Session led by Zakir Hussain, featuring several national and International artistes. Zakir Hussain tells us, “Through 14 years, we have had the good fortune of some of the greatest luminaries of Indian music blessing this occasion, representing many musical traditions from across the globe.” The event is not ticketed, so go early to get your entry passes.
