Mumbai may be the country’s financial capital with its swanky localities in Malabar Hill, Cumballa Hill and Bandra’s Pali Hill. It also has upto 10,000 slums located atop and along the slopes of its 32 other hills, where people continue to exist in real danger to their lives. Most of these shanties are precariously perched, and have, from time to time, come crashing down with boulders and mud coming loose during the monsoon. In fact, the tragedy of landslides killing slumdwellers is a yearly phenomenon. An estimated 200 people have lost their lives in landslides in the last 10 years.
