Yamini Walia tells you why you should visit the Colours of Bengal exhibition
Nehru Centre Art Gallery is hosting an art exhibition titled Colours of Bengal, which will showcase the work of 12 veteran Bengali artists, including Anupam Karmakar, Anjan Sengupta, Sukumar Das, Malay Chandan Saha, Arpita Basu, Subuddha Ghosh, Tarun Banerjee, Swapan Kumar Palley, Biswajit Mondal, Anup Kumar Giri, Murari Mohon Basu and Samir Saha.
Their work revolves around the Spectrum Artists Circle, a three decade old Bengali art movement, which gives artists the opportunity to showcase their work and attempts to popularise Indian art on a global platform. Artist Samir Shah explains, “As part of the Spectrum Artists Circle, we have been exhibiting in various cities over the last few decades. In our show at Nehru Centre, we will be showcasing over 61 paintings in various sizes, with subjects ranging from folk art, Baul, nature and Ganesha, to a joker in front of a heritage structure and agony, romance, women, tradition and untitled work. Although our work is so different from each other, our passion for art is the common thread that binds not only our work, but all of us as well.”
Head over to Nehru Centre to see paintings from these artists, who have dedicated their lives to art on a global platform.
