Theatre NCPA Cheer!

Need an excuse to laugh out loud? Yamini Walia tells you what you can look forward to at the 4th edition of NCPA Cheer!

NCPA Cheer! is back with its 4th edition, with a lineup of six acts and three plays including a magical comedy, a comedy debate and an all-woman show! For the first time, the comedy festival will take place across three venues in the same centre.

Deepa Gahlot, head of programming for theatre & films at NCPA, tells us, “Comedy as a genre has progressed tremendously and NCPA has always believed in encouraging new talent. NCPA Cheer! aims to promote fresh comedy in the city while ensuring the quality of performances. In this edition, Cheer will present a celebration of comedy, wit and laughter through six unique acts and three new plays.”

The first show, Versus, will see Rohan Desai and Adhiraj Singh face off to perform a show at the same time. Charandas Thief revolves around an exceptionally honest thief. The cast includes Ameet Bhuvan, Harish Seshadri, Jagdish Raja, Priyanka Porwal, Adnan Khalid, Anirudh Acharya, Nikhil Nikhlesh, Shunky Chugani, Sarvjna Acharya, Sindhu S and Rebecca Spurgeon. Funny Women will see comedians Radhika Vaz, Anu Menon and Sonali Thakker take you through different styles of comedy in one show. You can also watch Sorabh Pant improvise standup suggested by the audience in his popular show, Travelling Pants 2.0, which is returning with brand new content. The Indian Comedy Debate will shed light on hard-hitting issues, delicate concerns and the deep-rooted problems that we face today, as an exposé about who stole Bugs Bunny’s carrots and will feature Anuvab Pal, Rajneesh Kapoor, Varun Grover, Anu Menon, Radhika Vaz, Adhiraj Singh and a surprise guest moderator.

You can also enjoy other acts such as Charge, which is an absurd comedy about technology and the human condition; The Homegrown Comedy Supershow is a tribute to all forms of comedy in the country; The Wizard Wars is a supernatural war that rages across the realms, and Black with ‘Equal’, is a satirical black comedy that takes an unsentimental look at contemporary society and delivers a scathing comment on the human condition. The tickets are priced between Rs 270 and Rs 1,500.
