Interview Fatboy Slim
Popularly known as Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook will be performing at the Enchanted Valley Carnival for the first time this year. Yamini Walia caught up with the British DJ
This is your second trip to India. What are you looking forward to the most here?
It is my second time performing in India, but the first time at Enchanted Valley Carnival. Surprisingly, it still feels like quite an adventure. This time around, I am looking forward to a whole new audience united in our desire to escape into a world of dance and celebration.
What does it feel like to be part of the Enchanted Valley Carnival?
It is always good to see a festival that goes further than the established genres. There are so many festivals that all seem more or less the same. The location and adventure involved at the Enchanted Valley Carnival seems to exude a unique vibe. I probably won’t be able to join in the extreme sports, but I will thrive off that atmosphere and try and make it even more special.
What do you have in store for your audience in India?
I am bringing the big show so anything can happen and probably will. I hope to see smiles on people’s faces and a little wiggle of their hips!
How did you come up with the stage name of Fatboy Slim?
I’ve been a DJ for over 35 years. When I turned 18-years-old and was old enough to play in nightclubs, I was known as ‘DJ OX’. The Fatboy Slim name came years later and is just an oxymoron.
What do you consider your biggest achievement to date?
I think bringing dance music to a wider audience and being the official DJ of the Olympics closing ceremony felt pretty immense.
What are your plans for the New Year?
A lot of releases, collaborations and a hell of a lot of fun.
